I was asked recently what I think of the strategy of asking a pupil to ‘Say it again, better’.
I think it’s really useful if something specific is added to it, so that it’s really clear why you are asking the pupil to try again. For example,
Say it again more slowly.
Say it again louder.
Say it again concisely.
Say it again using our target vocabulary.
As always, have high expectations plus sensitivity. Give your instruction in an encouraging tone!
