I’m talking less. I’m now getting them to do things like read out from the board instead of me. It’s had a huge impact on engagement. I don’t think I’d realised how much I was talking!
Who reads out things from the board in your classroom? Try getting pupils to read out learning objectives, questions and facts instead of you. And, if an instruction needs repeating, ask a pupil to do it.
